Scott McMurray
Attorney at Law &
Real Estate Broker
Businesses and individuals alike have challenges to navigate and want an attorney who understands their worries, passions, and dreams... and can guide them through the complex maze of legal concerns. That's where I come in. My name is Scott McMurray, and my practice is focused on Business & Litigation, as well as Estate Planning & Elder Law.
After law school, I started a real estate company with my brother that continues to this day. I learned firsthand many of the challenges entrepreneurs and business owners face on a daily basis. These challenges have included protecting business interests with entities, navigating contracts while building relationships, and managing risks while trying to grow.
My first four years in practice, I focused on civil litigation with a personal injury emphasis, but found a disconnect when it came to clients knowing what to do after their case was over. They often received large settlements yet had no clue how to manage their newfound wealth, protect their family, or build a legacy going forward. That experience, combined with seeing the challenges of many in my immediate and extended family, led me to expand my practice to include Estate Planning & Elder Law. Planning for your family and protecting your legacy is a great task, and doing it properly makes a difference.
Mostly raised in Missouri, my undergraduate degree is from Drury University, and my law degree is from Washington University in St. Louis. I have offices in both the Kansas City and Springfield MO areas. When not helping clients or tending to real estate matters, I enjoy dogs, playing music with friends, and traveling as far away as my schedule permits.
Our Process
The process from introduction to completed business strategy or estate plan usually takes two or three meetings, depending on your situation and what you are hoping to achieve. (Note the process for litigation and especially personal injury cases is very different). We begin by getting to know you and understand your unique situation. In addition to learning factors relevant to your business or estate, we want to know your goals, desires, and concerns as they pertain to your personal or business situation.
After this, and usually during a second meeting, we look in more detail at the specifics of what you are hoping to accomplish, and contemplate available avenues. We design a proposal addressing your goals, desires, and concerns. This may include conversations with you and your family, or a discussion about how your business strategy or estate plan will be implemented in practice after it is created.
In the final step of the process, the business strategy or estate plan is presented. We review all planning documents one last time to ensure accuracy. We do not intend for our relationship with you to end here! Come to us with concerns, questions, or needed changes going forward. Most business strategies and estate plans need adjustments a couple times throughout one's lifetime. Therefore, it is a good idea to review your existing plan every three or four years.
